SCRUM@SCALE FRAMEWORK
WHY SCRUM@SCALE
Natural Scrum Extension
Scrum is a proven iterative method of product development that focuses on a regular cadence of delivery by focusing on the Scrum Values and using the 3-5-3 structure.
Enhance Communication
Scrum@Scale's dual cycles reduce the number of communication pathways within the organization so that complexity is encapsulated and simplified.
Build Leadership Support
Scrum@Scale is based on the Minimum Viable Bureaucracy (MVB), which is the minimum number of leaders and processes required to reduce decision latency and increase business agility.
Aligned Vision & Prioritization
MetaScrum creates an overarching product vision for the entire organization. It's a forum for Leadership and stakeholders to negotiate priorities, alter budgets, or realign teams to maximize value.
Grow Organically
By using a 'scale-free' architecture, organizations are not constrained to grow in a prescriptive manner and can scale based on their unique needs and challenges.
HOW DOES SCRUM@SCALE WORK?
Scrum@Scale Graduates will Join an Elite Group: The International Registry of Agile Professionals (AEP)
Registered participants from our Scrum@Scale workshops are qualified to register with the Agile Education Program powered by Scrum Inc. The International Registry of Agile Professionals is the only Scrum education credential developed and endorsed by Dr. Jeff Sutherland, co-creator of Scrum and signatory of the Agile Manifesto.
The International Registry of Agile Professionals provides organizations and hiring managers with a database of professionals who have gone beyond certification. Registered graduates have the knowledge, confidence, and tools to jump into an agile environment on day one.
SCRUM@SCALE FAQS
-
There remains a debate on whether Scrum Masters should be Registered Scrum Masters (RSM) or if it is adequate to be Certified Scrum Masters (CSM). There are five main reasons we endorse a Registered Scrum Master in our workshops as opposed to a Certified Scrum Master 1)The co-founder of Scrum endorses RSM, 2) RSM has roots in lean and focuses on removing waste, 3) RSM teaches the patterns of hyper-productive teams 4) RSM requires the trainer to be re-endorsed every year, 5) all RSMs are allowed to join the International Registry of Agile Professionals.

You already know you need to scale your agile framework to help your growing teams to work together more efficiently – but what system should you implement, Scrum@Scale or SAFe?
Scrum@Scale was developed by Dr. Jeff Sutherland and Alex Brown. It is a framework that lets businesses effectively manage large-scale agile implementations. Scrum@Scale is an extension of the familiar Scrum framework, which means that wherever Scrum is implemented, Scrum@Scale is a logical next step in scaling. The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) utilizes a highly structured framework to adopt a scaling framework. Unlike Scrum@Scale, SAFe is NOT based on Scrum and is more challenging to customize from team to team.

Warning: DO NOT SCALE IF YOU DON’T NEED TO.
I know this warning might shoot me in the foot as an Agile Coach and Scrum@Scale Trainer, but please read that again: Do not scale if you don’t need to. Scale is complicated, expensive, disruptive, and may slow down delivery. Often when an organization thinks they need to scale, what they need to do is de-scale. They need to go back to the basics-create dedicated self-management and cross-functional teams. Aggressively remove dependencies. Give teams the power to use Product Thinking to drive the product’s outcomes. Please continue reading if you still need to scale after doing all these things.
